Social Program

Recently we traveled to Mexico's Riviera Maya and stayed at the Rosewood Mayakoba - a magnificent resort! We would love to share a wonderful experience that occurred during our stay.

Our family expressed a desire to help a Mayan community in need. Through the guidance of 4Worlds Expeditions (a tour company that arranges unique and exceptional expeditions and is proud to serve in social alwarenes programs), we were permitted to do just that.

Before we traveled they informed us what items would be most appreciated by the village. We then bought the suggested school supplies and easy reader English books in Virginia and purchased puzzles, educational games and balls while we were in Mexico.

Through 4Worlds, not only was our family able to help a local community in need, but we were allowed to deliver our contributions in person. This was truly a rare prospect and provided us an unforgettable lifetime experience.

On route to our journey to Chichen Itza, one of the seven wonders of the world, we were taken to a delightful pueblo where we interacted with the locals. We boarded a local taxi, of sorts. A combination of a rickshaw and a tricycle with a driver. As we were peddled through the town we saw how simplistic and happy life seemed without the hustle and bustle of a modern city.

Our destination was the elementary school. Tears of joy welled up in our eyes when we saw the principal of the school, along with several school children, anxiously awaiting our arrival. The children were adorable! The little girls dressed in their native clothes - brightly colored embroidered threads detailing the crocheted lace borders of the hem and cap sleeves, along with colorful flowers in their hair. The boys stood in neat attire, hair combed and smiles on their faces. They were holding hollowed out gourds which held seasonal local fruit for us to enjoy.

Never did we expect such a warm welcome in delivering our gifts to the school. The books, back packs, pens, crayons and pencils along with soccer balls and other assorted toys brought sheer delight to those accepting them.

Our excursion to the local Mayan community and our tour of the pyramid and ruins of Chichen Itza made this day the best of our trip!
