Rituals of Healing for the World through the Four Elements
The Climate Change Conference COP16 organized by United Nations was held in Cancún from November 29 to December 10.
Based on our genuine interest for environmental preservation and conservancy, Maroma Resort and Spa by Orient-Express organized a series of parallel events to this great event to promote some of our environmental practices and at the same time to invite our guests to join these actions.
We started our activities with a Temazcal Ritual guided by Teresa Buitron. This ritual is an ancient and beautiful ceremony which symbolizes the womb of our mother earth, the personal rhythm of life with the rhythm of nature achieve a connection; it is a representation of the universe where the four elements (earth, water, air and fire) interact physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
During the following two weeks we organized 4 rituals of healing for the world working with the four elements where guests and staff actively participated and understood the importance of each element and their relation with life through different relaxation techniques, songs, sounds made with prehispanic instruments, offerings and guided meditations. Gabriel Rangel, expert in meditation techniques and yoga and Teresa Buitron the “temazcalera” arranged these rituals in the best of the sceneries, Maroma’s beach with the harmonic sound of the waves breaking next to us.
To finalize these series of events, we planted a tree and thus contribute to the reforestation of our environment. At night, our guests were delighted with a special menu to take us back to our roots, flavors and textures of the phehispanic cuisine. The menu was designed by the Chef of Cuisine Edgar Chavez and offering Zikil-Pak' Guacamole with grasshoppers and totopos served in a clay ceramic plate, Red Pozole served in a guaje base and been tamales ”Etalmalli” in a banano leave.
